Let me introduce you to Jack “Diamond Crackerjack” he’s a Irish Draught x Welsh D and stands at 17hh. I bought him to do Show Hunter classes with and very quickly it became obvious that he wasn’t keen on showing it was just a little boring for him and jumping was much more fun!
We started BE last season with a friend Alex riding him as her pony was out of action and I’m not brave enough to go XC! His 1st BE at Larkhill was on a very blowy day and after at 0330 start he finished on his dressage score in 4th place and we picked up a RF ticket, that made the 3 hour drive home pass very quickly! Then we went to Bicton our local BE and he came 2nd with an unlucky rub in the show jumping, picking up a second RF ticket.

Then a little blip where having cut his mouth on something he wasn’t keen on the contact for dressage and it took a while to get him settled again. We went to Ponticepool for our 1st RF and a mistake in the show jumping put him out of contention with a clear round but lots of time faults. Then we went to Dauntsey and he finished on his dressage score to come 2nd and qualify for Badminton.
He’s since had a quiet few months and then a complete 6 week holiday turned away in the field over Christmas. He came back in last week and has had a bit of a tidy up and clip and the hard work starts here.
Follow the next 3 months as we prepare for our 1st Badminton. If Jack has anything to do with it we will be laughing and crying!
