Performance Mentoring Programme Training Day

Dear member,

Performance Mentoring Programme on July 21st at Wellington Riding

The Performance Mentoring Programme is a legacy left to the sport of Eventing by the late Caroline Moore. Caroline’s vision was to enable riders and coaches to progress to the next level in their competition career, by providing mentoring and training opportunities.

On the day six of our coaches on the PMP coach development programme will benefit from the expert guidance of Yogi Breisner, FBHS who will deliver the first coaching session, prior to having a professional discussion with the coaches on coaching strategies and delivery methods. Each of the coaches will then coach a session and receive Yogi’s feedback.

Six of our PMP riders will be riding and working with the coaches to develop their performance towards late summer and autumn competitions.

This will be an interactive day with opportunities to talk with the coaches and riders and directors.

The PMP directors welcome any interested EHOA members to join them, the café will be open for refreshments during the day. Please email Sue Ringrose should you wish to attend: sue@sue-ringrose.com. Please state that you are an EHOA member. If you have any EHOA questions on the day Board Director Mark Corbett will be attending and is happy to assist!

Scone Palace International Horse Trials

Some exciting news from the team at Scone Palace International Horse Trials which takes place at the end of August. Please find attached the Owners guide that has been produced by the team in Scotland for Scone Palace International.

At Scone we are all very excited about the event and things are moving at a pace currently, as we plan & try very hard to deliver a world class event in year 1! We are sure that there may be some teething challenges, and we really welcome the opportunity to develop the event this year and beyond, with our key stakeholders of Owners and Riders. All feedback and assistance is welcome so we deliver what you need rather than what we think you need! You know how to get hold of me!

It is important to stress that we are not Blair Castle v.2 – we are Scone Palace Int HT! Of the aspects that are very important to us, two key ones are facilities and conditions for horses which will develop over the next year or two, and good old fashioned Scottish hospitality.

Many thanks again and look forwards to seeing you out and about.

Jenny Nolan

Long standing EHOA member sadly passed away earlier this week.

Her legacy, both as a mother and a passionate advocate for equestrian sport, will not be forgotten.

The thoughts of the EHOA Board are with Pippa, Tim and their families at this time.

Please see below the tribute British Eventing paid to her.

It is with deep sadness that British Eventing acknowledges the passing of Jenny Nolan, a much-loved and highly respected figure in the equestrian world. Jenny passed away following a battle with cancer, during which she remained as resilient and committed as ever to the sport and community she loved.

Jenny’s contribution to British equestrianism spanned decades. Alongside her late husband, George, she was instrumental in running the South of England and Eridge Horse Trials from the mid-1970s through to the present day — events that have long held a valued place in the British Eventing calendar. With the support of her son Tim, Jenny also played a pivotal role in the development of several competitions across the South East, leaving a lasting legacy for future generations of riders.

Jenny’s influence extended far beyond eventing. She was well known in the showjumping world, having worked at The Horse of the Year Show during its early years at White City and later at Wembley. Much of her working life was dedicated to the South of England Showground, where she oversaw the equestrian programme and BSJA winter shows with great care and professionalism.

She was also a vital force behind the success of her daughter, Pippa Funnell, one of Britain’s most celebrated event riders. Jenny accompanied Pippa across the country and around the world, supporting her career from Pony Club beginnings to Olympic Games and major championships. Her loyalty and pride in both Pippa and the wider British teams never faltered.

Jenny will be deeply missed not only by her family but also by the many friends, volunteers, and members of the equestrian community who knew her warmth, generosity, and quiet strength.

Rosie Williams, CEO of British Eventing commented: “Jenny Nolan was a remarkable woman whose contribution to the sport has been wide-reaching. Her commitment to eventing was extraordinary — and her influence can be seen in the events she helped run and the many lives she touched. On behalf of everyone at British Eventing, we extend our deepest sympathies to her family and our heartfelt thanks for everything she gave to the sport.”

British Eventing offers its heartfelt condolences to Jenny’s family and all those who had the privilege of knowing her. Her legacy, both as a mother and a passionate advocate for equestrian sport, will not be forgotten.

Defender Bramham Horse Trials

Today sees the start of Defender Bramham International.

For those people need the address it is: Bramham Park, Bramham Ln, Wetherby LS23 6ND

To access the event please follow the signage. Just a word of warning there are roadworks on route! From Thursday, there are roadworks to put in four miles of concrete central barrier between the M1 junction 47 (Parlington) and A1(M) junction 45 (Grange Moor). There will be reduced speed limit of 50mph. This will allow the A1(M) to keep four lanes open. Both the A1(M) northbound and M1 northbound approaches reduced to two lanes, prior to the two routes merging, and becoming four lanes.

Some Event specifics:

EHOA hospitality onsite – located overlooking the main arena – collecting ring end. Do pop in and join the fun. The normal tea/coffee, sweet treats, newspapers. Also fresh, delicious strawberries for everyone courtesy of Chris Makin.
