Ros Canter and Pencos Crown Jewel win the 2022 EHOA Members League
Ros Canter and the 13-year-old mare, Pencos Crown Jewel owned by Annie Makin and Kate James have been confirmed as the overall winners of this year’s EHOA Members League.
Newly launched for 2022, this exciting and dynamic league for top level eventing on British soil is funded by The Event Horse Owners Association (EHOA), a strategic partner of British Eventing. The concept rewards the most competitive and consistent combinations at CCI4*-S and CCI4*-L levels throughout the season and carries a fabulous prize fund of £20,000; divided between the winner (£15,000), the runner-up and a special prize for the top placed horse ridden by a young rider (aged 28 or below until end of 2022). The winner also receives a stunning bronze horse head trophy that has been specially crafted by EHOA member, Jackie Olivier and mounted on a base produced by Peter Wedd.
The points system, designed by EquiRatings, distributes points for the top 25 (CCI4*-L) and top 15 (CCI4*-S) finishers – plus a unique negative points structure for cross-country jumping errors, which delivers the potential for dramatic changes to the series leader board on every 4* cross-country day.
Top 3 finishes in the CCI4*-S at Chatsworth and the CCI4*-L at Bramham gave Ros and Pencos Crown Jewel a great haul of points and quickly moved them into an early lead. A solid eight-place finish in the CCI4*-S at Hartpury in August awarded them another strong score and an overall total of 45 points – good enough to keep them in the top spot throughout the rest of the season.
The runner up title went to Heidi Coy and her own 10-year-old mare, Halenza. Three top 10 finishes – in the CCIO4*-S at Houghton, the CCI4*-L u25 at Bramham and the CCI4*-S at Hartpury – left them on a brilliant total of 39 points. Aged under 28, Heidi also picks up the extra prize for the horse ridden by a young rider – giving her a fabulous total prize fund of £5,000.
