Festival of Youth Championships

We are thrilled to be supporting the Festival of Youth Championships at Bishop Burton this weekend.

The Festival of Youth brings together British Eventing’s youth members for an exciting celebration of the future of our sport.

One of our most loyal supporters, Plum Rowland, will kindly give £200 to each member of the winning team in the CCIJ2*S Team Championships.

Each winning team member will also receive one year’s complimentary membership of the EHOA.

Darrell Scaife, British Eventing Head of Youth, commented “I would like to thank the Event Horse Owners Association for their continued support through the provision of training vouchers, helping young riders continue their development long after the competition has finished”

BRITISH EVENTING STATEMENT

The EHOA Board send their deepest condolences to Kerry and Sophie’s families, friends and loved ones at this devastating time.

Our thoughts are also with their fellow competitors, organisers, owners, officials, volunteers and everyone who has been affected by these tragic events

BRITISH EVENTING STATEMENT

It is with immense sadness that British Eventing confirms the tragic loss of Sophie Fouracre and Kerry Donoghue following separate incidents on Saturday 18th July 2026.

Sophie Fouracre, aged 34, was fatally injured in a cross-country accident riding Rhubarbsfox Brittania, at Swalcliffe Park, Oxfordshire, England.

Hours later at Penrith in Cumbria, Kerry Donoghue, aged 42, died following a cross-country accident riding Carneyhaugh Rua.

At both venues, the event medical teams responded immediately and provided emergency treatment. Despite their best efforts sadly neither rider could be saved.

Both horses were examined by the attending veterinary team and were found to be uninjured.

Rosie Williams, Chief Executive of British Eventing, said: “The British Eventing community is heartbroken. On behalf of everyone at British Eventing, I want to extend our deepest condolences to Kerry and Sophie’s families, friends and loved ones at this devastating time. Our thoughts are also with their fellow competitors, organisers, officials, volunteers and everyone who has been affected by these tragic events.

“We are immensely grateful to the organisers, doctors, paramedics, veterinary teams, officials and emergency services at both events for the professionalism, compassion and care they showed in the most difficult of circumstances.

“The loss of two members of our eventing family on the same day is almost beyond words, and we know the sadness of these events will be felt profoundly across the sport for some time to come.”

In accordance with British Eventing’s safety and incident review procedures, comprehensive reviews of both accidents will now be undertaken.

We recognise the impact these tragic events will have across the eventing community. Anyone affected is encouraged to seek support through the British Eventing Support Trust Helpline, which is available 24 hours a day, seven days a week, on 07780 008877.

We respectfully ask that the privacy of both families is respected during this incredibly difficult time.

Scone Palace

Dear Event Horse Owners,

If you’re looking for some fun with your horses at the end of this summer, can we encourage you to come to Scone Palace (27-30 August)?  We had an absolutely brilliant debut event in 2025, and we learnt a lot about this brand-new site which has enabled us to make improvements and tweaks for this year.

Situated in the grounds of Scone Palace – one of the most historic places in Scotland, where kings were crowned for hundreds of years – between the palace and the River Tay, it is a genuinely stunning event site.

We also have the huge advantage of being able to use the permanent facilities of Perth Racecourse next door – and the skill and knowledge of the racecourse ground staff to prepare the going. Scone Palace is just outside Perth, and the new A9 link road means that access and traffic movement is FAR better than at our legendary predecessor, Blair Castle (and it’s an hour and a half further south than Blair…). Perth has excellent rail links, and is only half an hour from Edinburgh Airport. The area boasts so many other activities, from golf to visiting the Palace, which is fascinating – you have to go and see the legendary Stone of Scone, known as the Stone of Destiny – so there is lots to keep everyone entertained, especially on the dressage days! We’d love to see you – check out www.sconehorsetrials.com for more information.

What we can offer:

Classes at CCI4*-L, CCI4*-S, CCI3*-L, CCI2*-L and CCI1* level – and the Scottish Grassroots Championships at BE90 and BE100 level. There’s a wide range of British Showjumping classes, including the £1,000 Scone Grand Prix in the Main Arena, showing, arena eventing, Pony Club Games and more.

A warm Highland welcome: we’ll once again be hosting a fantastic programme of social events, from our Welcome Drinks at Scone Palace to the traditional Ceilidh, giving everyone a true Highland experience.   Excellent stabling and facilities: thanks to the outstanding racecourse facilities, many international horses will enjoy permanent stabling with first-class facilities. All other horses will be accommodated in top-quality barn stables, now in a new location much closer to the permanent stables, keeping everyone together.

Exceptional ground conditions: while the Highlands have provided plenty of natural irrigation so far this summer, as soon as it stops the racecourse team will switch to artificial irrigation as required.

Combined with a year-round ground management programme, we are working hard to ensure exceptional going in both the arenas, the warm-up areas and across the cross-country course.

Owners’ facilities: the Scone Palace Owners’ Facility will once again be located beside the Main Arena, offering all owners a comfortable place to relax throughout the event. Owners will also have access to the Members’ Marquee.

With best wishes
Alec Lochore
