EHOA Members League Current standings

Latest news on the league standings

Ros Canter and Pencos Crown Jewel hold top spot in £20k EHOA league.

Top three finishes in the CCI-L 4* at Bramham and the CCI-S 4* at Chatsworth has propelled Ros Canter and Pencos Crown Jewel to the top of the EHOA league.

The league got underway at Chatsworth in May and, after the superb performances there and at Bramham, Ros and the 13-year-old mare owned by Annie Makin and Kate James have taken an early lead with a current points total of 37. Thomas Carlile (FRA) and his own nine-year-old gelding, Darmagnac De Beliard are hot on Ros’s heals at this stage of the season, just one point behind in second. They have built their score so far by finishing second in the CCI-S 4* at Chatsworth and fourth in the CCI-L 4* at Bramham.

Britain’s Heidi Coy fills the next two spots with her own Halenza and David Ottewell’s Russal Z. Heidi achieved top ten finishes in the CCI-S O4* at Houghton and the CCI-L u25 4* at Bramham with both the 10-year-old mares to leave them lying third and fourth respectively. Susie Berry completes the top five for Ireland, sitting on a score of 29 after securing top ten finished in the CCI-S 4* at Chatsworth and the CCI-L 4* at Bramham with Helen Caton’s Ringwood LB.

This exciting and dynamic new league for top level eventing on British soil is funded by The Event Horse Owners Association (EHOA), a strategic partner of British Eventing.

The concept rewards the most competitive and consistent combinations at CCI4*-S and CCI4*-L levels throughout the 2022 season. The EHOA points system, designed by EquiRatings, features a tight points distribution for the top 25 (CCI4*-L) and top 15 (CCI4*-S) finishers – plus a unique negative points structure for cross-country jumping errors which delivers the potential for dramatic changes to the series leader board on every 4* cross-country day.

With many combinations now having had at least a couple of 4* runs, the league is really starting to take shape. It will be exciting to see how it continues to change in the coming weeks and months as the rest of the season unfolds.

Don’t forget, to be eligible for the extremely ge

Consultation 1

Currently there is a requirement by BE for International organisers who are running FEI and National classes 1* – 4* to provide a 20% difference between the levels on XC between the National and International class (2*/Nov, 3*/Int, 4*/Adv). Traditionally in GB the Internationals are a step up from the National classes.  There are a few organisers who believe that they should be identical and we are interested to know owners’ opinions.

Do you think there should be a difference between National and International tracks?

Yes/ No

Please  explain your answer

……………

Please note that names will not be forwarded when your answers are submitted.

Consultation 2

World Horse Welfare (WHW) is a member of British Equestrian (BE) and does a range of long-term work around topics such as the long-distance transport of horses for slaughter, improving the lives of working equids around the world and more, under the Presidency of HRH The Princess Royal.

Roly Owers, WHW Chief Executive and himself a vet, is leading a project in conjunction with the Royal College of Veterinary Science and others to develop an ethical framework for the involvement of horses in sport, to help promote the responsible use of horses in sport, with the horse always at its heart.

This work also aims to identify any gaps in the understanding of horse management, training, rehoming, equine behaviour and wellbeing (through all the strata of competitive sport). Responsible practice in these and other areas will be encouraged through education and awareness. Roly is eager to talk with people involved in competitive horse sport about the growing issues around the ‘social licence’ of using horses in competition, and the work being done by WHW and others..

EHOA members, as owners of event horses, are central in all of this, and Roly hoped to come and meet and talk about the project with members.

Question 1

Would you be interested to participate in the WHW research project?  This may involve either completing a questionnaire or speaking to a researcher.

Yes/ No

Please provide email address and brief information about the level at which your horse(s) competes.

Question 2

If a short presentation/ discussion about the research was made at Burghley would you be interested to attend?

Yes/ No

Updates

Some updates for you –

British Equestrian and its 18 member bodies signed a unity pledge yesterday which outlines a commitment to improving equality, diversity and inclusion throughout the equine industry.

The pledge includes the following commitments:

  • to make equestrianism representative of the diverse communities around us
  • to grow a welcoming community for all who are united by a passion and respect for the horse
  • to promote the benefits of equestrianism on mental and physical health and wellbeing.

With this in mind there is a little a project going on that needs our support. This is to support Park Palace Ponies, a cinema in Toxteth, Liverpool which has been converted to a tiny riding school to support inner city children. We are working with their volunteers to fast track their volunteers to a coaching qualification. More details can be found on this link:

Secondly one of our generous supporters of the Association Irwin Mitchell have a competition running currently to win some sporting tickets – details on the link here
